2012 Annual CYM Raffle

The Palatine branch of the American Ukrainian Youth Association, Inc. (AUYA) is a 501c3 charitable organization that was incorporated in Illinois in 1968 and serves the Ukrainian American community of suburban Chicago. Our organization is dedicated to providing educational, cultural and social programs for youth of Ukrainian descent, but membership is open to anyone interested in Ukrainian culture and heritage. Our programs, which are run by volunteers, emphasize the importance of becoming good citizens of the United States and our local community, while instilling an appreciation of our ethnic heritage and culture.

The AUYA is the owner of the building known as the Ukrainian Center at 136 East Illinois Ave. in Palatine, Illinois. That facility houses our organization’s various programs, including:

  • The Ridna Shkola School of Ukrainian Studies, a Saturday Ukrainian language school for children in kindergarten through ninth grade;
  • The Iskra School of Ukrainian Dance;
  • Weekly youth educational and leadership meetings;
  • Intramural soccer and other athletic activities;
  • Cultural enrichment programs such as Ukrainian music and art;
  • Various other community events, concerts and gatherings.

The AUYA of Palatine is the hub of Ukrainian activity in suburban Chicago, and our programs continue to expand and improve as our membership continues to grow.
Our programs provide members with a means to enhance the lives of their children in a safe and family friendly environment. Over 250 children enjoy these various programs every week.

In the recent past, our Ridna Shkola School of Ukrainian Studies was honored with special recognition from the State of Illinois. Our Iskra dance groups perform at various community events and represent the local Ukrainian community every holiday season at the Museum of Science and Industry’s annual Christmas Around the World celebration as well as at the City of Chicago’s annual Winter Wonderfest at Navy Pier. Iskra has also had the honor of recently performing at the Governor’s Mansion in Springfield, as well as at the Rotary International Centennial Anniversary convention in Chicago.
